Reimagining Eternia: Trailer and Visual Development for Masters of the Universe

The Masters of the Universe franchise returns to the screen with a live action feature film directed by Travis Knight, scheduled for release in June 2026.

This reimagining of the classic Mattel IP marks a significant shift in the visual storytelling of Eternia, moving from its animated roots toward a high end cinematic version.

Architectural Narrative and Worldbuilding in the New Trailer

The trailer gives the first real look at Eternia on the big screen, and the scale is exactly what the IP deserves. Castle Grayskull, Snake Mountain, the Power Sword, these are designs that have lived in people's imaginations for decades. Translating that into a live-action world means every surface, every structure has to feel like it belongs to a real history. That's the kind of challenge that defined a lot of Chromatic's work on this project, building environments and assets that feel both faithful to the source material and genuinely cinematic.

Chromatic Studio and the Visual Language of Eternia

Chromatic Studio collaborated closely with Amazon MGM Studios and production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas throughout the pre-production phase. Our team contributed a substantial volume of visual development, ranging from initial environment design to detailed character design for the primary cast. This work focused on establishing a consistent aesthetic that honors the heritage of the franchise while pushing for a modern look.

Beyond the film itself, Chromatic Studio was responsible for creating the cover illustration for the official art book, Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film. This 224 page hardcover from Mattel Press documents the extensive creative process behind the production.

This project was a major team effort involving Jad Saber, Timothy Rodriguez, Loic Zimmermann, Jakub Vykoukal, Arthur Ripert, Marc Meyer, Bart Tchorzewski, Oscar Bagalini, Christopher Brändström, Kian Kazemi, and Alexander Ovchinnikov. You can view our broader portfolio and previous visual development on our work page. We are pleased to have played a part in this journey and look forward to sharing more of the team’s art when the film arrives in June.
